A few centuries ago, Louis Van Bunnen bought several hectares of dunes together with two other friends. Their only obligation: to build a stone seawall on it. No sooner said than done. He also made the Grand Hôtel du Zoute a reality. It turned out to have caused a domino effect, because the hotels suddenly shot out of the ground. Part of the stone seawall is now known as Van Bunnenplein, a gathering place of culinary eateries overlooking the beach. True Van Bunnen style.
