Graslei and Korenlei Ghent
The medieval harbor with the historic buildings on the Graslei, where ships have docked since the 11th century, is the favorite place to be for many residents and visitors. The beautiful facades are reflected in the Leie, and on the other side of the water is the Korenlei. When the weather is nice, you can enjoy a terrace on both banks.
From the Korenmarkt you are also close to the Grasbrug. By the way, boats are still mooring at the quay, and the nice thing is that you can also embark yourself.
The house facades along the Graslei exude history. You can now buy accessories in the Cooremetershuys, but in the Middle Ages the appointed corn meter measured the traded grain. Also take a close look at the completely restored facade of the Guild House of the Free Schippers. A lot of money has been invested in this building over the centuries. The stately stepped gable facade of the old grain storehouse has been there since the 13th century.
The grain store – also known as the nail – has now been given a completely new meaning, aimed at connoisseurs.
