Palm Market
Palmenmarkt is the annual fair of Geel. The fair takes place mainly on the Markt, the Havermarkt and the Werft, and this for five days.
The fair always starts on the Friday before Palm Sunday, and lasts until the Tuesday after. On Friday evening at 6 pm the mayor will give a speech, and when the bells of the Sint-Amandskerk ring afterwards, the Bellemannen traditionally go to the fair with the children. This allows them to take a few rides on the children's attractions for free.
In the evening around 10 p.m., the opening day is completed by fireworks. Tuesday is family day with reduced prices. On Saturdays there is also a large annual market in Kollegestraat and Diestseweg.
Palmenmarkt is the largest funfair in the Zuiderkempen and, according to some sources, is even the largest in the Kempen.
