At the end of the 19th century, the Antwerp city council developed a new district just south of the old city centre. It became a Belle Epoque neighborhood with sturdy harbor docks as well as elegant streets and wide avenues, lined with important public buildings.

After a more difficult period, this district is now experiencing its second youth. With its trendy image, the South is now known – and even internationally – as one of the hot spots of the lifestyle and fashion city of Antwerp.

The Photo Museum, the world culture center Zuiderpershuis, Cinema Zuid and the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (MUHKA), the better art galleries, the hip restaurants and bars as well as fashionable concept stores in converted warehouses will certainly appeal to culture freaks and trendsetters.

Also typical is the star-shaped street pattern, which offers you a compass to unravel the history of this district with Parisian allures. The beautiful, wide streets often end in squares with statues and fountains, such as the Marnixplaats.

The most imposing buildings on the route are the majestic Royal Museum of Fine Arts

Antwerp (KMSKA) and the somewhat futuristic-looking new courthouse, not to be missed when you enter Antwerp from the ring road in the direction of South. A true art temple and an alleged “Butterfly Palace” actually steal the show here. Furthermore, the striking maritime references stand out in the architectural details and on the numerous proud monuments.

A thousand years ago in Japan, fish was kept in vats of fermented rice. Literally, sushi means 'marinated rice'. This is how the classic Japanese sushi was born, a ball of rice topped with a slice of raw fish. At Zaowang sushi means much more. On our menu you will find sashimi, nigiri, sushi, hoso maki, temaki and a wide range of futo maki. You can choose à la carte or go for one of our combos.
