The old Antwerp city center exudes plenty of history. You will find them in the centuries-old facades in the narrow streets near the imposing Grote Markt, with eye-catchers being the City Hall under renovation and the Brabo statue, two of the most photographed spots in the city.

Right next to the City Hall you can take an underground tour along the ancient ruins of Antwerp. Before or afterwards you can take a picturesque walk through the Vlaeykensgang along the Antwerp of yesteryear. Or walk down the Suikerrui and soak up the atmosphere of the Scheldt quays, with a view of the Left Bank.

The St. Carolus Borromeo church, a few minutes' walk from the Grote Markt, is the Rubens church par excellence. He played an important part in the decoration of the facade and the crowning of the tower. At Hendrik Conscienceplein, one of the nicest in Antwerp, you also have the impression that you are in Italy.

From there you can go to the Vrijdagmarkt and the Plantin-Moretus Museum, the only museum in the world that belongs to the Unesco World Heritage.

Above everything and everyone, the imposing Cathedral of Our Lady stands out. In the proverbial shadow of this cathedral, which every Antwerp resident is proud of, life is bustling in cozy pubs, restaurants and cocktail bars.

The Peerdestal has been a household name in Antwerp for over 47 years. In the 27 years that chef Mike Vlasman has been at the stove here, the restaurant has evolved considerably.
