Castle Kijckuit or Belvedere

The Kijckuit castle on Broekstraat dates back to a 16th-century "court of plaisantie", which was purchased in 1769 by the van Havre family.

On their behalf, it was converted into the current classicist castle. The brick cornices were originally plastered and painted. The side wings, possibly 19th-century additions, were rebuilt after 1910.

The castle's 18th-century appurtenances, which were also renovated, are located within the ramparts, symmetrically located to the east and west of the monumental wrought iron entrance gate. A basket arch bridge with a natural stone balustrade spans the ramparts. Part of the castle avenue has been preserved between Houtlaan and Albert Canal.

In 1994 the castle, with the access bridge and gate, was protected as a monument. Together with its immediate surroundings, it was also recognized as a village sight.
