Wijnegem City Hall
The old town hall of Wijnegem is a beautiful, stately and above all easily recognizable building in neo-Renaissance style. It was inaugurated in 1910 with a procession that appealed to the imagination at the time, and it is an example of the rich styles that characterized Antwerp architecture around 1900.
You can admire the work of Michel De Braey, the architect of the town hall. It is illustrative of the multitude of mainly historicizing styles. In the council chamber, the beautiful joinery and the numerous valuable interior elements stand out.
In the new part of the town hall you will get an overview of the various expansion plans. You can also take a look at the golden book, which with its beautiful illustrations commemorates some striking events in the life of the town hall.
In the courtyard is a work of art in memory of Mayor Leo Nuyts. The artwork is made of wrought iron and symbolizes the idea of "open house", a philosophy that the municipality also wants to convey to its residents.
