City Park Aalst
The city park is only 800m from the Grote Markt and is a green oasis of peace with a rich variety of trees and plants. It was built in 1915 under the impulse of the then ship Désiré De Wolf. During the First World War, the ships wanted to provide work for the Aalst men to protect them from the German requisition.
The park is designed as a spacious recreational area with walking paths and play areas around two fishing ponds - the balloon pond and the mirror pond - and has more than 100 tree species.
During the summer months of July and August, concerts are organized every Monday, with free admission. Children can romp on the various toys, athletes can enjoy themselves on the sports fields and anglers enjoy the peace and quiet at the fishing pond.
The original constructions in the park (a milk house, a card house, a garden shed and a bridge) still exude the typical atmosphere of yesteryear. The milk house owes its name to the compulsory and unlimited sale of milk products from 1916. Today the milk house, with its cozy terrace, invites you for a drink and a snack, especially since you have a beautiful view over the park.
