Central Station
Near the Central Station you come across the world, and then in the faces on the street as well as in the shops, cafes and restaurants. From chic to popular, from historic to contemporary: this district has it all.
The heart of the district is the majestic Central Station, built at the time by King Leopold II and named the most beautiful station in the world by the New York Times in 2013, and there are certainly arguments for that.
Next door is the ZOO, the most beautiful garden in Antwerp and for several years equipped with a renovated “state of the art” conference center, the Elisabeth Center.
From the Central Station you cross the street, so to speak, and you immediately end up in the diamond district and in the middle of the Jewish community.
Across the street from Astridplein, chocolate lovers can visit Chocolate Nation, a mecca for all things chocolate. Because make no mistake: besides beer and chips, chocolate still belongs to the national "top 3" of what our country has to offer.
Shopping fanatics can go straight along the renovated Keyserlei towards Meir, the largest and most important (traffic-free) shopping street in Flanders. Once at the end of the Meir you can't
past the “Boerentoren”, which will be given a new destination thanks to the well-known Antwerp entrepreneur Fernand Huts.
From there, and via the Groenplaats, you automatically walk into the historic heart of the “biscuit city”.
