Maasmechelen
Maasmechelen: a small municipality with a big history. Nowadays everyone immediately thinks of the famous shopping outlet Maasmechelen Village, but it is what lies behind the outlet that has put Maasmechelen on the map.
When the coal mines were opened at the beginning of the 20th century, Maasmechelen was an attraction for guest workers. At first mainly for the Poles, Czechs and Hungarians, later mainly for the Italians, Turks, Greeks and Spaniards.
And it is precisely because of those guest workers that Maasmechelen is a real mix of different cultures. Nowhere else can you taste more of Europe than here, and surrounded by beautiful panoramas.
