Ypres is a city with a worldwide reputation, and for good reason. The havoc wrought here during the First World War is hardly noticeable, but the symbolic legacy is all the more noticeable. Ypres is full of haunting, monumental buildings. The beautiful Cloth Hall or the impressive Saint Martin's Church, for example, have been rebuilt with great skill and style. The icing on the cake is of course the Menin Gate, a war memorial like no other. Ypres is worth a visit for the Last Post alone.
