DIKSMUIDE
A municipality with a bleak past that has risen like a phoenix from its ashes. The two World Wars left almost nothing for Diksmuide intact. Yet this West Flemish municipality now stands proudly in the shadow of the monumental Yser Tower, a reminder of the horror of the First World War, but also a symbol of peace and resilience. The cemeteries are also a serene memorial of cruel times. Somewhat easier to digest are perhaps the nature reserves in the area. In any case, a visit to Diksmuide will not leave you untouched. Mandatory stop if you are staying on the coast.
