Bruinisse
Bruinisse, Bru, is the mussel village of Schouwen-Duiveland. The large mussel on the harbor plateau and the many fishing boats in the harbor bear witness to this.
Bru was founded at the end of the 15th century by order of Anna van Bourgondie, after the salt marshes at the eastern tip of Duiveland were dyked. The old core of the village consists of a so-called ring core. On January 5, 1945 Bruinisse was bombed by the Allies. Dozens of houses, the church and flour mill De Zwaluw were lost.
